Importing Content

TechSight/X CMS S1000D provides a range of import utilities depending on the content type. All import utilities are available through a batch importer as well as through the GUI.

Importing Structured Manuals

Structured manuals in the S1000D format can be imported directly into the system. TechSight/X CMS S1000D is Boeing 787 ready, the first commercial aircraft that will be delivered with documentation in the S1000D format.

Structured manuals compliant to the ATA Spec 2200 standard will be converted during the import. This conversion process is a full automatic process which can be used to process revisions as well. Spec 2200 manuals will be broken down into S1000D data modules; for example, an AMM maintenance task will become an S1000D data module.

All content is stored in the central repository of TechSight/X CMS S1000D.

Importing Unstructured Manuals

Many aircraft manuals, especially component manuals, are not structured today. Typically they are PDF files or TIFF images. TechSight/X CMS S1000D has an import process to split unstructured manuals, extract meta data, OCR the content and store it in a semi-structured way according to the S1000D standard.

Extracting the content from an unstructured manual and storing it in a structured form allows you to search over unstructured content and change only parts of the original manual.

Graphics in any format can be imported into TechSight/X CMS S1000D. TechSight/X CMS S1000D fully supports formats such as CGM, SVG, TIFF, PNG, and JPG. Any mime type can be registered with the system.

Storing content

During the import all content is stored in a central repository. All content in the central repository is versioned (with branching), including images, schemas, XML content, unstructured manuals, and stylesheets. The TechSight/X CMS S1000D versioning system ensures full tracing and tracking and the ability to revert to older versions of any content.

Extensive Search dialogs

Search for data analysis or authoring TechSight/X CMS S1000D has extensive search capability for maintenance program tasks, job cards, engineering projects, graphics, structured manuals, and unstructured manuals. Searches can be executed, refined and stored.

Boolean expressions With TechSight/X CMS S1000D specialists can specify over 200 search criteria. Searches can be refined and exported. TechSight/X CMS S1000D supports full-text search with Boolean expressions and wild cards. Besides the standard search functionality, specialists can define XQuery reports.

Search results Searches can be used by subject matter experts for data analysis or by authors to start the authoring process directly from the search result.

Authoring Data Modules

Full support for S1000D TechSight/X CMS S1000D fully supports the S1000D schema. Rich authoring tools are available for all content types.

Authoring Graphics

Embed photos and video in your job cards and manuals TechSight/X CMS S1000D goes beyond graphics, any mime type can be authored in TechSight/X CMS S1000D. Like all content rich media objects are fully versioned in the central repository. Any authoring tool can be used for any media type. Support for rich content finally allows job card authors to embed photos, video, sound bytes, and so on in their job cards.

Batch Authoring

Adding or Removing Tails Special dialogs are available for batch updates of tails. When tails are added or removed only the batch update is run, rather than going over the content one by one.

Regulatory Required Reports

Regulatory report capabilities TechSight/X CMS S1000D has built in report capabilities to run regulatory required reports against the maintenance program. Besides regulatory required reports, several maintenance program reports are available for analysis purposes.

Publishing content

Automatic publishing of modified job cards After setting a job card as reviewed, an automatic publishing process to the delivery system is executed. The delivery system is updated only with the changed content. Automatic delivery ensures that the delivery system is always up to date without any human intervention.

Publishing of all related content of reused fragments When standard texts or reused fragments are modified, a complete republishing of all related content can be executed. This ensures that the delivery system received updates of all cards and manual content that is affected by a change in a standard procedure, caution, text, note, and so on without needing to search and update individual documents.

Workflow

Automatic workflow generation for reviewing related content When maintenance tasks are modified, they can have an effect on existing job cards. Upon checking in a change to a maintenance task, an automatic workflow process is generated notifying job card authors to review relevant job cards related to the changed maintenance task.

Reviewing Cards, Tasks, Engineering Projects, and Manuals

Previewing content TechSight/X CMS S1000D offers quick preview functions to see how the content would be used in various applications. Applicability can be set during the preview function to see how the content is used in different contexts.

Draft publishing TechSight/X CMS S1000D has a built-in publishing engine which can publish content in draft and finalized content in various formats such as HTML and PDF.

Unstructured Manuals

Automatic conversion of unstructured manuals from PDF to S1000D TechSight/X CMS S1000D has a built in conversion utility to convert unstructured manuals from PDF to an S1000D structure. Table of contents structures are generated, unstructured manuals are split into single-page PDFs which made searchable through automatically generated meta data documents.

Revision processing

Import and decomposition Revisions from OEMs are processed. In the case of ATA iSpec 2200 content the incoming revision is split into fragments and new revisions are imported in the content repository.

Conflict resolution As part of the revision process a difference report is produced. TechSight/X CMS S1000D has a conflict resolution tool to merge changes from the OEM and the airline in a side-by-side comparison dialog.

Process Data Module Implementation

Advanced Fault analysis TechSight/X CMS S1000D has a complete implementation of the S1000D Process Data Module which allows engineers to built interactive fault analysis dialogs which are capable of gathering data.

 

Overview

• TechSight/X CMS ATA is the ATA iSpec 2200 authoring module of the TechSight/X system. It contains two sub-components: one for Document Administration functions and another for the authoring interface.
• The TechSight/X CMS ATA Administration sub-component handles the conversion of the manufacturer's SGML data into XML and imports it into the system. It also handles the publishing of the data into our TechSight/X Publisher and TechSight/X IETP ATA products, or back out as airline-authored SGML.
• The TechSight/X CMS ATA Navigator subcomponent allows the technical publication author to make changes to the manual and validate those changes for accuracy. It is also the interface for the changes to be reviewed and conflicts to be resolved when a new version of the manufacturer's data is brought into the system.

• Data integrity - TechSight/X CMS ATA maintains data integrity through data checking and validation during the import, authoring, and publish processes. The files are maintained through a document management system with document locking and check in/out functionality, so data is never lost.
• Revision support - TechSight/X CMS ATA supports revision updates from the manufacturer with insertion of supplemental data in the form of any recognized file format, imports of SGML temporary revisions (TRs), and full SGML manual revisions. Each revision is incorporated into the manual with conflict resolution for documents that were changed by the airline authors.
• Authoring support - TechSight/X CMS ATA is a full-scale authoring environment for airline tech pubs writers. It supports additions, deletions, and updates to the manufacturer's version with either XMetaL or PTC Arbortext Editor.
• GUI interface - TechSight/X CMS ATA has intelligent user interfaces for both the TechSight/X CMS ATA Administrator and TechSight/X CMS ATA Navigator components. The Administrator is able to start, stop, continue, or rollback an import or publish function. The writer receives dialogs to deal with adding or changing to reduce the amount of human error in filling out metadata.
• Document lifecycle and workflow - TechSight/X CMS ATA maintains a document lifecycle for the manual throughout the system. The manual will pass through the states of Imported, Draft, Validated, Approved, Published, and Released, with each state maintaining integrity of the current and previous versions of the manual.
• Data delivery - TechSight/X CMS ATA has an expanse of data delivery options to choose from. The most common is to publish the manual to our TechSight/X IETP ATA web server. Additionally, the manual can be delivered as a complete SGML manual with our export function, or synchronized with an additional web server or laptop for offline viewing of the manual.
• User based roles - TechSight/X CMS ATA has a security model based on user roles. The user can be classified as a Document Admin, Tech Writer, Reviewer, and/or System Administrator. Each role has certain restrictions and permissions within TechSight/X CMS ATA that control what the user can do.
• System Administrator function - TechSight/X CMS ATA contains advanced system administration functions to keep the system functioning with only scheduled downtime. The system administrator has an interface to delete an invalid manual, kill user sessions, and to have autocompile turned on for easier debugging.

Advanced WYSIWYG User Interface TechSight/X CMS Task Card has a full-blown WYSIWYG interface for job card authoring. Besides the WYSIWYG mode, structured authoring is offered with drag and drop support. Many helper dialogs with database-driven lookups support the author in building job cards more efficiently.
Advanced content reuse TechSight/X CMS Task Card enables reuse of content such as standard texts, cautions, warnings, notes, or any fragment from maintenance manuals supplied by the OEM. Job card authors see the entire job card in the authoring environment while reusing fragments from other documents which are clearly defined by a highlighted background. Typically over 95% of the job cards within an airline contain standard texts, standard warnings, cautions and notes. With TechSight/X CMS Task Card these standard texts are maintained only once and reused anywhere.
Positional Cards TechSight/X CMS Task Card fully supports positional job cards where positional card have their own preliminary requirements but fully reuse content from the master positional card. Typically over 20% of the job cards are positional cards which now have to be authored only once instead of keeping redundant copies.
Associate Maintenance Tasks TechSight/X CMS Task Card associates maintenance program tasks with job cards. Job cards authors can therefore significantly improve their efficiency since support dialogs are available to select information from the associated task only.
Tail Effectivity, Location Effectivity, and Company Effectivity Anywhere in the content of the job card effectivity filtering might be applied. Effectivity filtering is not limited to Tail effectivity. Location specific filtering, Company specific filtering etc might apply as well. TechSight/X CMS Task Card effectivity filtering eliminates the need to maintain multiple job cards for various locations, executing parties, and so on.

• Job Cards for engineering modifications: Create collections of engineering job cards for accomplishing required inspections and modifications using intuitive web forms. That information can then be kept in sync automatically with both airline and manufacturer changes to the maintenance data.

Overview

TechSight/X BPM is a Web application built on the most advanced XML technology to create an innovative, highly flexible framework. It is designed for easy customization for industries where control management is essential to their success. The interface is a Web page, wizard, and dialog box all rolled into one, with the appearance of a Web page. Its innovative design provides maximum usability for a more user-friendly and productive experience.

TechSight/X BPM manages large and complex task-oriented business processes, and gives visibility to the workflow each step of the way. It helps you monitor and respond in real time to process-flow bottlenecks and empty queues, by making the necessary reassignments to keep change requests moving in the most efficient manner. TechSight/X BPM manages the relationships between the different activities in the change request, facilitating the maximum, efficient use of resources. TechSight/X BPM User Inbox displays the work users need to complete according to their user ID. A user can clearly see what work is ready for him to perform, without having to sort through extraneous assignments.

Features and Benefits

TechSight/X BPM reports give up-to-the-minute information on the progress of activities and performers. You can create a new report based on report types set up in the system. Open an existing report of the type you want to run, click Clear to delete the data from the last query, and enter the information you want to search for and then specify how you want the results displayed. Run the report, and the information you queried is returned, exactly the way you specified. Queried information is returned and displayed in grid or summary layout.

There are three default types of reports: change requests snapshot, change packages snapshot, and tasks snapshot. The fields available to query will be customized to your TechSight/X BPM installation. An ad hoc report can be configured in minutes to query any information in the system. Once a report has been configured, it can run one time or become a new report type.

TechSight/X BPM also provides a Dashboard to quickly and easily track the quantitative progress of any metric in a workflow. Create metrics, such as the different stage of an activity in a workflow (such as pending review or pending approval), and set thresholds that cause an alarm or warning to appear in the Dashboard when they are met. There is one Dashboard per user and it only displays information relevant to that user.

For a rapid and immediate indicator of the state of alarms and warnings per user, the TechSight/X BPM Health Level Indicator displays in the lower right corner of the interface. It is a number from 0 to 9 with a background color of green, yellow, or red indicating the status of the metrics configured in the Dashboard in relation to the thresholds set for them. When the status is 0 to 3 the background color is green, which indicates no thresholds are exceeded. When the status is 4 to 6 the background color is yellow, which indicates a warning threshold is exceeded. When the status is 7 to 9 the background color is red, which indicates an alarm threshold has been exceeded. Clicking the Health Level Indicator displays a report with a snapshot of graphs displaying the status of all Dashboard groups and their metrics.

Additionally, TechSight/X BPM provides contextual online help. This user documentation is provided in PDF for the user, but is indexed for direct linking to the correct page - based upon the user’s activity in the application. This documentation was developed using DITA, thereby allowing developers to easily adapt, modify, and publish documentation for a particular customer deployment.

Overview

• Searchable S1000D content - Use configurable search forms to quickly return just the right content. Search results and data modules are filtered for applicability to show only the content that is relevant for the current product being maintained (aircraft, ship, vehicle, etc.).
• Viewable, browsable S1000D content – Navigate through a tree representation of data modules, organized by product and data module code. Browse views are also filtered by the specified applicability conditions.
• Embedded process data module logic engine – Generate interactive, guided user interfaces from standard S1000D process data modules. Use the extensive set of external interfaces to retrieve on-board system parameters, such as pressures and temperatures, which can be used to preselect the correct path in the process logic tree, leading to quicker resolution of maintenance discrepancies.
• Interactive fault troubleshooting – Use data-driven forms and search results to quickly access specific troubleshooting procedures. The search form can be customized according to the product, showing only the relevant search fields.

• S1000D Data Exchange - InfoTrust TechSight/X IETP S1000D also imports supplier data S1000D exchange packages and seamlessly integrates data into the CSDB. When it comes time for content delivery, S1000D data can be exported directly to Airbus creating the correct packing requirements mandated by S1000D. Simple and effective User Interface InfoTrust TechSight/X IETP S1000D was designed in close partnership with base and line mechanics. TechSight/X IETP EFB provides a common user interface and consistent functionality regardless of the environment, whether using the aircraft EFB device, a simulator, a training room, or online with a laptop from home. Based on a tightly integrated set of best-of-breed technologies, the TechSight/X IETP EFB product suite offers the airline world wide availability of all flight operation information. All onboard TechSight/X IETP EFB repositories will be customized with that aircraft specific data. Personnel login in through the web will have complete access to the fleet and enterprise data.

TechSight/X IETP EFB is also device independent if your preferred choice of EFB device supplier changes in the future. The Flight Operations and Company Manual Edition provides a direct flow of data from the technical publication group to operational delivery without conversion being necessary. The common architecture that is used on the aircraft EFB environment and ground based system allows for the availability of the interface and its functionality at 38,000 ft and 0 ft AGL. 

Production of EFB import files:

The Flight Operations and Company Manual Edition can produce documents that follow the DTD of AOM/FCOM, MEL/CDL, and AirBook. These standard DTD type document instances can be imported into the XML content repository through a procedure supplied by InfoTrust.

Viewer Features:

Magnifier

The fully integrated ActiveCGM Viewer features a magnifier with scalable zoom that magnifies the portion of the graphic where the mouse pointer is pointing and puts it in a separate zoomed popup window. This makes it easy to view portions of a graphic quickly without losing perspective of the entire graphic.

ATA GoTo and Shortcut Function

The ATA GoTo function allows users to go directly to the chapter, section, or pageblock of their choice, without the need to tediously drill down through the hierarchy of a table of contents. Users can also specify the ATA topic of interest, thereby limiting the pageblocks they need to view and shortening lookup time.

Intelligent Graphics Capability

The fully integrated ActiveCGM Viewer features intelligent graphics capability.

Animation

Searching for part numbers in TechSight/X IETP ATA is easy, particularly when you type in the alpha or numeric character to select corresponding part numbers.

Graphic Thumbnails

TechSight/X IETP ATA allow the user to view all the graphics from the current document unit in a popup window.  By clicking on a graphic title in the popup window, the selected graphic will be displayed in the main graphic frame.

Overview

InfoTrust Process Data Module Logic Engine for S1000D

The S1000D Process Data Module specification is a standard for interactive processing structures resulting in a sequence of data modules. Example usages are:

• Interactive Fault Analysis applications
• Guidance applications for complex procedures
• Product advisory applications such as: "Which laptop should I choose?"
• Interactive market surveys

Although the S1000D Process Data Module is an S1000D standard which primarily targets interactive fault analysis, the specification itself is useful in a broader sense beyond the Aerospace and Defense industry.

Logic Engine

A Logic Engine implementation is capable of compiling Process Data Modules and present this as an interactive application to the end user. Besides an interactive, web-based application the TechSight/X Logic Engine can be published as a PDF document.

TechSight/X Logic Engine offers an interactive, wizard-like web application to the end user, where the end user is guided through the process defined in the Process Data Module, ensuring that all steps in a procedure or fault isolation are followed. The wizard-like web interface helps the end user by supplying additional information and by interfacing to external systems or devices.

Logic inside the document eliminates the need for custom development

TechSight/X Logic Engine eliminates the need to change your application whenever your process changes. With the Process Data Module the logic is part of the document. Whenever procedures or processes change you only have to change the Process Data Module content which is interpreted by the logic engine. Overview

TechSight/X Portal is designed to save airline personnel and related companies time and money by establishing an Internet platform for electronic data transfer (EDT) of technical aviation information. Over this secure Web site, member companies can distribute technical documentation and other time-sensitive information to end users in near real-time. Member companies can also distribute password-protected information to any of their own employees or authorized third-party users around the world who have Web access. Even large documents can be distributed using custom interfaces (for example, AMMs and IPCs can be distributed over the Internet using TechSight/X IETP).

TechSight/X Portal also serves as a backup and disaster recovery for access to digital data. Operating within the highly secured InfoTrust hosting center, it provides 24/7 services consisting of system monitoring, fault tolerant Internet connectivity, fault tolerant electrical power, protocol load balancing, and premises access security and support.

Portal Administration

TechSight/X Portal allows administrators to easily manage users, groups, and roles through a GUI interface. Groups signify a collection of users. Roles signify permissions that a group or user can be bound to. Access to portlets is also restricted to users based on roles. Administrators can also specify community pages so that all users who belong to a certain group see the same page.

Personalization

Portlets can be rearranged to the unique preferences (color, screen layout, portlets, etc.) of a user or community.

Online Distribution of Aerospace Technical Documentation

Documents can be distributed via TechSight/X Portal. Large documents can be distributed using custom interfaces (for example, AMMs and IPCs can be distributed over the Internet using TechSight/X IETP or other OEM Viewers can be distributed via Citrix).

Document Distribution

TechSight/X Portal is a neutral site for distributing aerospace documentation that allows complete control of revision and distribution cycles:

• Simple mechanism for posting and uploading documents and Internet links.
• Fast and efficient methods to search for specific documents or links.
• Highly secured site providing firewall technology and password protection.
• Document access functionality giving direct control over who can view documents.
• “My Favorites” page allowing for access to predefined drill down and search queries.
• Email alerts to provide notification of new document postings.
• Document ownership transfer - allowing the transfer of control from one user to another.
• Logging capabilities including document and user statistics, document transfer tracking and document alert statistics.

TechSight/X Portal’s Document Library Section provides all the functionality required to manage documents, to filter views of accessed documents, and find documents with specific attributes, such as aircraft type or data provider.

Integration with TechSight/X IETP

The TechSight/X IETP portlet allows access to TechSight/X IETP from within TechSight/X Portal’s interface.

Overview

TechSight/X Graphics provides capability to view, print and convert graphic data. Graphic formats supported are:

• TIFF CCITT4
• CGM4
• JPEG

This graphic component is available as an ActiveX and can be integrated in the web application. It is available also as a COM component.

The graphic component also includes a graphic converter:

• SGML/XML to TIFF
• CGM to SVG
• CGM to TIFF or BMP

The platforms supported are Windows NT, 2000, 2003 and XP. Preliminary test with AirGTI DV32 and DV only Vista did not show any problem.

Overview

• Maintenance visit management – Import maintenance visit requirements from existing scheduling systems. Automatically assemble required job cards based on visit requirements. Batch print maintenance visits to system printers using the included print management server.
• Coordinated access panel open/close – Autopopulate access panel cards during visit creation. Only panels that are required to be opened for that visit will be listed, along with the list of job cards requiring access through that panel.
• Integrated materials management information – Interface with existing materials management systems to include real time part and stock information in displayed job card content.

Base maintenance visit manager

Interfacing scheduling and planning systems InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package integrates with existing planning and scheduling systems to retrieve scheduled visits by location. Integration can be built based on the InfoTrust TechSight/X IETP S1000D application programming interface. Visits can be updated from external systems by adding, removing or overriding particular visits jobs.

Check matrix InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package has a unique way of compiling the work package per visit. The check matrix is part of the job card based on check type and effectivity assignment. When a visit is opened InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package will collect all relevant job cards for the specified visit based on the check matrix requirements. From that moment on job cards become active documents specific for the selected visit. The content is therefore automatically tailored for the visit on a specific date and location executed by a particular maintenance organization.

Visit status The InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package visit manager keeps track which visits are in which state. Visits go from initialized to open and from closed to an archived state.

Printing packages Visits can be printed by selecting either the entire visit, specific workcard types such as Engineering Cards, Panel Cards, Monitors, and Log Pages, or by job ranges. Print dates are stored in InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work package and reprints show copy watermarks. Visits are printed to print queues. A print API is available to monitor spooling to the local or remote printer and to provide error handling.

Tally, Tools, and Parts reports Tally, Tools, Parts, Notes, and Drawing reports are available for a visit in both HTML and PDF formats.

Visit, Job signoffs InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package generates controlling documents when visits are opened such as a visit and job signoff cards. Access panel tables are automatically filled based on the configuration of the aircraft and specific visit requirements.

Complete Archive database InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package maintains a complete archive of past visits. Closed visits are stored in a separate archive database. The InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package application can connect to the active and the archive databases where search, analysis, viewing, and printing capabilities are available for the entire archive.

Line maintenance documentation

Overnight visits Overnight visits are available through the visit manager. Speed dialogs can open and print multiple visits from the search result dialog.

Ad hoc searches for manual content In time-critical situations at the gate, ad hoc searches, fault analysis tools, and pre-defined solutions significantly reduce the time to get the aircraft back into the air. InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package significantly reduces the time to troubleshoot a problem and find the required maintenance content. The InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package process data module implementation enables a integration of maintenance manual content and fault analysis reducing the time to find the right maintenance content.

Simple and effective User Interface InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package was designed in close partnership with base and line mechanics. The primary design goal was to minimize the effort to find the right maintenance content. InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package benefits from the modular approach of the S1000D standard where maintenance content is dynamically constructed for a particular task or activity. Dynamically assembled maintenance content can contain information from all traditional manuals such as the fault isolation manual, maintenance manual, and illustrated parts catalog.

Process Data Module Implementation

Interactive fault analysis InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package implements the S1000D Process Data Module allowing engineers to define interactive fault analysis applications.

Gathering Information Process Data Module documents can be used to gather information during the fault analysis by defining dialogs.

Manual construction Process Data Module execution leads to a sequence of data modules retrieved from the InfoTrust TechSight/X Job Card, Visit and Work Package database. A sequence of data modules can be rendered into a resulting ad-hoc manual.

InfoTrust ATA iSpec 2200 to S1000D Conversion Tool

InfoTrust ATA iSpec 2200 to S1000D conversion tool, TechSight/X Converter ATA2S1000D, allows customers to convert legacy ATA iSpec 2200 data into S1000D data modules. S1000D offers tremendous opportunities to streamline aircraft documentation however for existing fleets all content is typically available in the ATA iSpec 2200 SGML format. TechSight/X Converter ATA2S1000D's conversion utility overcomes this challenge by a full automatic conversion from ATA iSpec 2200 to S1000D data modules enabling customers to benefit from S1000D today. Revision packages from OEMs such as Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer can be processed by the conversion tool to process updates without the need to rekey content.

TechSight/X Converter ATA2S1000D’s conversion utility preserves the original ATA structure by generating S1000D Publication Modules. All content is converted into Data Modules. TechSight/X Converter ATA2S1000D’s conversion utility takes into account the differences in the input ATA iSpec 2200 content for various fleets.
