S1000D overview
S1000D is an international specification for the procurement and production of technical publications. It has emerged in response to the needs of industries like manufacturing, aerospace, and defense to streamline maintenance operations and improve compliance with regulatory and safety standards. The specification is XML based and provides guidelines for creating, distributing, and displaying technical content.
S1000D prescribes the production of information in a modular form, called a data module. This modularity is intended to allow maintenance publications, like manuals and interactive guides, to be delivered on demand to engineers faced with a particular task, thereby improving their productivity and effectiveness.
